The geological history of the Indaw region has not-yet been researched, hence scientific data is still lacking but oral historical accounts abaculus. One legend claims that of two water dragon brother who once ruled the lower Indaw region(located today in katha District), the younger moved to the upper regions and created a vast lake in the area surrounded by mountain ranges as his fife and kingdom. Another tale recounts how some people in the area inadvertent ate the eggs of a water dragon queen as a consequence of which the whole region was inundated and became a huge lake. These legends hold a special interest because of an account of Shan-Htamane, a special traditional preparation of glutinous rice indigenous to the whole country with only slight variations to the recipe, as well as an account of how the Naga race originated and dispersed later to other parts of the courtly.
